The Cambridge Private Law Centre will host a series of ‘current developments’ and ‘research in progress’ seminars this term both in-person and over Zoom.

Speaker: Mindy Chen-Wishart (Oxford University)

Contrary to orthodoxy, good faith is no stranger to common law. Properly understood, we have been “speaking prose all our lives without knowing it”.

The debate over whether to introduce a doctrine of good faith is therefore misconceived—the horse has bolted; the stable door has opened. Rather, the salient questions are: (i) How can a good faith requirement be justified? (ii) What role should it play in the evolution of contract law? (iii) What does it require? and (iv) How can we start to taxonomize its demands?

This seminar is open to all LLM, MCL and PhD students, Faculty members and Faculty visitors but is not open to undergraduate students.

Due to the dangers associated with the storm, the event has been moved completely online, so you can attend via Zoom.

If you have questions or are interested in speaking at a future CPLC event, please email privatelaw@law.cam.ac.uk
